'True Blood' is ending in summer 2014 with a 10-episode, 7th season, HBO announced Tuesday, Sept. 3.
After six seasons of bloody but high-intensity drama, 'True Blood' is bound to sign off in 2014 with its 7th season as its last.
"'True Blood' has been nothing short of a defining show for HBO," President of Programming at HBO Michael Lombardo said in a statement, adding that show creator Alan Ball did a great job in the Charlie Harris' books tv series adaptation.
"Alan Ball... assembled a brilliant cast led by the magnificent Anna Paquin in the role of Sookie Stackhouse, and crafted a show that has taken its many devoted fans on an Unforgettable journey," Lombardo added.
Lombardo also stated that Ball passed the baton to Brian Buckner, who led the creation and completion of the sixth season of the show, adding that Buckner will lead the final season of 'True Blood' as well.
"Together with its legions of fans, it will be hard to say goodbye to the residents of Bon Temps, but I look forward to what promises to be a fantastic final chapter of this incredible show," Lombardo said.
The tv series based on Charlie Harris' Sookie Stackhouse novels, which premiered in 2008, brought together Anna Pacquin, Stephen Moyer, Alexander Skarsgard and many others.
"I feel enormously proud to have been a part of the 'True Blood' family since the very beginning," Buckner said in a statement. "As we take a final walk through Bon Temps together, we will do our very best to bring Sookie's story to a close with heart, imagination and, of course, fun."
Buckner also stated that for the last season of 'True Blood,' the story will resolve vampire-human relationships.
"The original promise of the show was, if vampires exist, what do the relationships between humans and vampires look like? And that was Sookie and Bill," Buckner said adding, "All of it is about trying to get back to the more entangled romances and soapy-ness that the first season had."
According to CBS News, 'True Blood' season six ended mid-August with an average of 10.6 million viewers for every episode.
