Alexis Bledel fans have stirred a commotion online saying that they want the famous 'Gilmore Girls' star together with Matt Bomer to take on the lead roles as Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey in the 'Fifty Shades of Grey' movie, the Independent reported Wednesday.
Although some of the erotic novel's fans were delighted over the announcement of the actors to play the lead roles two days ago, Alexis Bledel and Matt Bomer fans seem to be quite dissatisfied and raised their concern right away by creating an online petition for movie producers to change the cast.
The petition in change.org states that the 'Fifty Shades' producers should change the lead stars Charlie Hunnam to Matt Bomer and Dakota Johnson to Alexis Bledel. The petition received 17,670 signatures over a day.
According to Yahoo!, Matt Bomer and Ian Somerhalder were the early favorites of the fans to replace Hunnam as Christian Grey while Alexis Bledel was the top choice to substitute Johnson as Anastasia Steele.
The petition is entitled: "We want Matt Bomer and Alexis Bledel as Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele on 50 Shades," and was created by a Twitter user named @dontouchmypatch.
'Fifty Shades' author EL James officially announced the casting for the movie in her blog as well as in social networking sites, even calling Hunnam "gorgeous and talented" while Johnson "lovely."
On the other hand, the Twitter user wrote a note saying, ""Matt Bomer is the PERFECT DESCRIPTION OF CHRISTIAN GREY AND ALEXIS BLEDEL IS THE PERFECT ACTRESS TO REPRESENT ANASTASIA STEELE and if THEY ARE NOT, NOBODY WILL BE."
"And I read the whole trilogy and I can assure that Matt is the perfect actor for this movie and Alexis too. So please PLEASE, all of the GREYsessed and Bomerettes in the world NEED those actors. They always will be for us the Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele. WE CAN DO ANYTHING GUYS, ANYTHING," the Twitter user added.
Meanwhile, producer Dana Brunetti responded to the outrage via Twitter saying, "There is a lot that goes into casting that isn't just looks. Talent, availability, their desire to do it, chemistry with other actor, etc."
Brunetti then added a few minutes later, "So if your favorite wasn't cast, then it is most likely due to something on that list. Keep that in mind while hating and keep perspective."
However, the producers statements didn't stop disappointed 'Fifty Shades' fans from pouring out their thoughts on the casting.
One fan even wrote: "Christian is supposed to be sexy and mysterious. Charlie Hunnam looks dirty and very unappealing. I will not be watching the film with this cast. Which is sad because I have waited forever to see this."
Other fans took jabs at the "kinky" bestseller and posted tweets such as: "The 50 Shades of Grey leads have been cast, bringing moviegoers one step closer to demanding their money back. - Comedy Central (@ComedyCentral)."
The 'Fifty Shades' trilogy sold over 70 million copies to date, making it one of the fastest best-selling book series of all time.
Universal Pictures and Focus Features bought the multi-million dollar rights to the book last year for the movie adaptation scheduled for release in 2014 with Sam Taylor-Johnson as director.
