"Fifty Shades of Grey" fans are outraged at the recent release of the casting choices made by the producers of the bestselling BDSM novel's screen adaptation, demanding that fan favorites Alexis Bledel and Matt Bomer should instead be cast. Bledel and Bomer had long been favorites ever since talk of a movie adaptation began, with former Gilmore Girls star Bledel reportedly being "flattered, and freaked out," to be considered for the role.
This past Monday (September 2), the series' author E.L. James announced on her twitter account that the leads to the much-awaited BDSM film has been cast. Charlie Hunnam has been cast to play mysterious young businessman Christian Grey, while Dakota Johnson has been chosen to portray Anastasia Steele, the virginal Literature major who is enticed into Christian Grey's "Red Room of Pain," and introduced to a deep dark world of erotic fantasies.
Several "50 shades" fans, however, are displeased at the recent casting choices, and have even gone as far as releasing an online petition on Change.org demanding that the film recast the leads with their fan picks Alexis Bledel and Matt Bomer. The petition reads as such:
"Matt Bomer is the PERFECT DESCRIPTION OF CHRISTIAN GREY AND ALEXIS BLEDEL IS THE PERFECT ACTRESS TO REPRESENT ANASTASIA STEELE and if THEY ARE NOT, NOBODY WILL BE And I read the whole trilogy and I can assure that Matt is the perfect actor for this movie and Alexis too. So please PLEASE, all of the GREYsessed and Bomerettes in the world NEED those actors. They always will be for us the Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele. WE CAN DO ANYTHING GUYS, ANYTHING."
The petition has since gathered over 20,000 votes, but Producer Dana Brunetti stands staunchly by the original casting decisions, saying that casting actors take more than "just looks," declaring that there are several other factors that go into casting decisions, namely talent, availability, willingness to participate, and chemistry. Brunetti defended the Johnson and Hunnam casting from angry fans, saying that the two actors have passed their "chemistry read" with flying colors.
Looks like these fans' Bledel/Bromer fancast will live only in the fanmade trailers.
