Christina Hendricks got promoted from portraying a stripper supporting character to the mother of the lead in Gillian Flynn's 'Dark Places' adaptation, Huffington Post reported Thursday.
Although Hendricks was earlier reported to play a supporting role for the film adaptation, she got promoted to playing Patty Davis, the mother of the lead Libby Davis (played by Charlize Theron) after former co-star Samantha Morton bowed out, Christina Hendrick's representative confirmed to E! News on Wednesday.
Hendricks was not even included the in press blast released last week stating the production start for the movie adaptation; nonetheless, she is officially a significant character in the film, ensuring her a spot on the movie billing.
For some the sudden change in Hendricks' character may imply a big question given the fact that the 38-year-old actress is to portray the mother of another 38-year-old star, Theron.
According to E! News, the two actresses will not actually appear in the same scenes; Hendricks will on be present in flashbacks before her character was murdered along with the other family members, leaving Theron's character an orphan at the early age of 7, who was then forced to testify against her brother as the murderer. The story is being narrated through flashbacks from Hendricks' character Patty's point of view and from Libby's brother all the same.
Other actors to take part in the movie include: Chloe Moretz, Nicholas Hoult, Corey Stoll, and Tye Sheridan, among others. 'Sarah's Key' director Gilles Paquet-Brenner wrote the script and will direct the film as well.
'Dark Places' is based on Gillian Flynn's 2009 best-selling thriller, and it is one of the two novels from Flynn set for feature release in 2014. The other novel is 'Gone Girl' which will be directed by David Fincher with Ben Affleck as the lead star. 'Gone Girl' will begin its production this fall.
