Intruders Arrested at Buckingham Palace over Suspected Break-In: Was the London Queen Safe? [VIDEO & REPORT]

Two men have been arrested over a suspected break in at the Buckingham palace, Police announce last Saturday, September eight, in a rare, but surprisingly not unheard of, breach of Royal Security.

London's Metropolitan Police say they are still investigating the incident, which took place Monday night, September 2, in which of the suspects reportedly scaled a security fence to gain entry into the Buckingham Palace.

The suspect was found in an area which had been known to be open to the public during the day, according to the police, but do not specify which exact area. He had since been arrested for burglary, trespass, and criminal charges, while a second man was arrested for alleged conspiracy to commit burglary.

Several parts of the 775-room palace are open to the public during summer, among them the State Rooms, the Queen's Gallery, the Royal Mews, and the Rose Garden.

It is not the first time that the security of the Buckingham palace has been compromised:

In 1982, Michael Fagan had managed to sneak in to the Queen's bedroom, waking her up as he drew the curtains. The Queen had remained cool, chatting with the intruder for ten minutes before quietly raising an alarm by asking the unexpected visitor for a cigarette-which then alerted the household.

In 2004, a fathers' rights campaigner dressed as Batman evaded palace security to hold a protest on a balcony.

A Daily Mirror reporter also got a job as a servant in the palace prior to U.S. President George Bush's stay during a state visit in 2003.

Stand-up comedian Aaron Barschak emphasized the palace's loose security measures by gatecrashing Prince William's 21st birthday party.

However, nobody has gotten that close to the Queen except Fagan. There had been no chance of a royal meeting last Monday for the intruders, as the Queen is currently residing at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, and no other members of the Royal family present at the Buckingham palace.
