The news site reports that the anime is a start to finish adaptation of Mengo Yokoyari’s 2012 manga. According to Crunchyroll, Yen Press describes the series as a story of Mugi and Hanabi’s seemingly perfect relationship; unbeknownst to either of the two lovers, they’re both secretly in love with another person.

Masaomi Ando (“School-Live!”) is serving as the director while Makoto Uezu (“The Heroic Legend of Arslan”) is acting as the series composer. Keiko Kurosawa (“Undefeated Bahamut Chronicle”) is working on character design and is the chief animation director, and Masaru Yokoyama (“The Lost Village”) is the music composer.

“Scum’s Wish” stars Chika Anzai (“Taboo-Tattoo”) as Hanabi Yasuraoka and Nobunaga Shimazaki (“Free!”) as Mugi Awaya. Others in the cast are Haruka Tomatsu (“Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day”) as Sanae Ebato, Shiori Izawa (“Toaru Majutsu no Index”) as Noriko Kamomebata, Kenji Nojima (“Saint Seiya: Legend of Sanctuary”) as Narumi Kanai, and Aki Toyosaki (“Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day”) as Akane Minagawa.

Mengo Yokoyari's manga is also being adapted into a live action series that will premiere on January 18, shared the Anime News Network. Similarly, the live action version will adapt the entire manga in its entirety and will show on Fuji TV.

According to Jobs & Hire, the “Scum’s Wish” anime is part of Kadokawa Research’s Top 20 Most Anticipated Anime list. It will air in January 11 exclusively on Amazon Prime Video for Japanese and international viewers, and on January 12 on Fuji TV’s Noitamina at 25:10.
