The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has just recently declared that CBD (cannabidiol) extracts from hemp are now considered Schedule 1 illegal substance. By definition, these chemicals have 'no currently accepted medical use and a high potential for abuse.' Hence, CBD extract is now compared to meth, cocaine, LSD, and ecstasy.
According to the report by Inquisitr, all industrial plants that manufacture CBD extracts from marijuana will have to update their registrations to the new 7350 code by January 17, 2017. In effect, the state-wide distribution of CBD extracts will be deemed illegal and punishable by law. As for the future of the industry that provides the main components for medical marijuana, it has become a little darker and more uncertain.
Hysteria Kills 'Medical Marijuana.'
An article by Oregon Cannabis Connection underscores how this ruling is largely based on confounded fear and stigma than comprehensive research. The decision seems to send a loud and clear message: 'medical marijuana does not exist!'
But contrary to popular belief, there are three confirmed benefits derived from the use of medicinal CBD extracts. These include the following:
1. Effective treatment for chronic pain
2. Effective at reducing post-traumatic stress disorder
3. Effective in chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting
Considering these benefits, there are no research papers effectively arguing against the usefulness of marijuana extracts in alleviating these related complications. Yet all of these facts are simply negated by the simple 'because I said so' counter-argument of DEA.
Trump's War on Science.
It is no secret that the Trump Administration is fiercely opposed to science. As featured in Jobs & Hire news article, Donald Trump actively campaigns for the total obliteration of ecological awareness by cutting funds for NASA's earth science as well as issuing serious sanctions against the Environmental Protection Agency. The decision of DEA to simply deprive natural treatment for cancer patients and people with related cognitive disorders no longer surprises anyone, regardless of any plausible deniability.
