107 Year Old Man Killed in Standoff with SWAT Team; Why Did They Shoot At Him? [VIDEO & REPORT]

Monroe Isadore, 107, was killed in a shootout with the SWAT team that came to his home.

Isadore died of his injuries at the hospital Saturday, after a brief gun battle in which both sides exchanged fire.

Pine Bluff police had responded to a complaint from two people who reported that they had been shot at, in Isadore's home. Police arrived at 4:30pm, a public report saying that Isadore had committed "Aggravated Assault" at two people in his home, and had pointed a gun at the responding police officers.

The old man was said to have barricaded himself into his bedroom after shooting at the officers, who in turn immediately called for support. No officers were injured in the shooting.

Supervising Officers arrived and attempted to negotiate with Isadore, but the old man had still refused to come out, and resulted in having a SWAT team called, and taking up tactical positions upon arriving.

A camera device was then discreetly inserted into the room, determining that Isadore was armed with a handgun. When he still refused to surrender his weapon, the SWAT team then subsequently introduced gas into his room before forcefully breaking down the door and throwing a distraction device into the room, whereby Isadore responded by shooting directly at the entry point, and the SWAT team engaging him.

Isadore suffered multiple gunshot wounds, and the body is reported to undergo autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

What remains unclear is why law-enforcement officials had to go as far as gassing the old man to force him out of his bedroom after only a few hours of investigation, and as to who the two people were in his home and what had been the source of conflict; the two people having already been sent away at the beginning of the negotiations.
