Six-Clawed Lobster Captured Off of Massachusetts Coast! 4-Pound 'Lola' Set To Join Other Odd-Looking Lobsters In Maine Display? [VIDEO & REPORT]

A six-clawed lobster was captured off of Massachusetts coast and is said to have avoided the cooking pot because of its peculiar trait, CBS News reported Monday.

According to UPI, Captain Peter Brown and lobsterman Richard Fuguieredo caught the unusual six-clawed lobster off the coast of Hyannis, Maine, using their boat, the Rachel Leah, which is currently being featured on the Discovery Channel's "Lobster Wars."

The 4-pound lobster with one normal claw on one side and five claws on the other has been named Lola.

Reports confirmed that Brown and Figueiredo have decided to donate six-clawed Lola on Thursday to the Maine State Aquarium in West Boothbay Harbor, a venue for the most odd-looking lobsters.

"Sometimes the genes will just get a little mixed and it will grow a funny claw," Marine Scientist with the Maine Department of Marine Resources David Libby told the Bangor Daily News. "But I've never seen anything like this."

Aquarium Manager Aimee Hayden-Rodriques told The Associated Press that Lola will be ready for display next week or when she has finally grown accustomed to her new surroundings.

Other rare lobsters that are on display at the said aquarium include rare lobsters with orange and blue coloring.

US News stated that the lobster industry makes up a sizable part of the Marine economy, adding that it generated $338 million in 2012.

The state is currently investing in growing and developing the industry through an increased state market budget from $750,000 annually to $2.2 million in the next two years.

Now the six-clawed lobster is expected to offer the Pine Tree State a boost in its tourism business, which is currently booming because of the state's lobster promotion.

The Maine State Aquarium, the home to rare lobster finds, is located in picturesque coastal town Boothbay Harbor in mid-coast Maine, a strategic location for tourism.
