Production for “Outlander” season 3 is ongoing, and recently, the Starz show released a first look photo of the season featuring Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Frank (Tobias Menzies). When the show returns, fans can expect to see the two coming to terms with their marriage as they welcome baby girl Brianna.
In the photo released by Entertainment Weekly, Claire and Frank are having a moment in “Outlander” season 3 as she carries the baby in her arms. It appears as though Claire has just given birth, and Frank has his hand on her lap and looks as if he’s very accepting of the new arrival.
Balfe spoke with EW and described the depicted scene, saying that it takes place right after Claire gives birth to Brianna.
“It’s so fraught with so many other things,” said the actress. “Obviously, this is Jamie’s [Sam Heughan] child, but Claire’s in a new time and believes that Jamie is dead.” Balfe added that her character is looking forward to giving her daughter a stable family.
At the end of season 2, it can be recalled that Claire returned to her own time in the 1940s, as Jamie urged her to do so for her and their unborn child’s safety. In “Outlander” season 3, more of Claire and Frank’s life together will be seen in the installment, and both of them will be coping with the past in different ways.
“I think it’s difficult for both of them,” said Balfe. “They’re tentatively trying to see if they can patch things up and allow themselves to embrace a future together.”
Part of “Outlander” season 3 will show Jamie and Claire’s time apart before she time travels back to the 18th century to be with him. Though many are excited to see the two reunite in the pivotal print shop scene as previously reported by Jobs & Hire, fans are worried that they won’t get to see a lot of Jamie and Claire together as some of the episodes will likely focus on Claire and her first husband.
Executive producer Maril Davis gave her take on the matter as she took to Twitter and wrote, “Interested to hear why #Outlander fans think Diana included Frank character? If we all just want to see J&C together what’s F’s purpose?”
“Outlander” season 3 premieres in 2017 on Starz.
