J.K. Rowling got a new movie deal from Warner Bros., a franchise to turn her 'Harry Potter' extension novel 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them' into a film series, New York Daily News reported Thursday.
The famous 'Harry Potter' creator, J.K. Rowling has landed a new filming franchise under Warner Bros. for her 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them' novel that is set in New York City 70 years before Potter's story has begun.
According to circulating reports, the first movie in the said franchise will be scripted by Rowling in her screenwriting debut.
"Although it will be set in the worldwide community of witches and wizards where I was so happy for seventeen years, 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them' is neither a prequel nor a sequel to the Harry Potter series, but an extension of the wizarding world," Rowling said in a statement.
"The laws and customs of the hidden magical society will be familiar to anyone who has read the Harry Potter books or seen the films, but Newt's story will start in New York, seventy years before Harry's gets underway," she added.
Although it has been confirmed that Daniel Radcliffe and the original case of 'Harry Potter' will not be appearing in the new saga, Hogwartz fans are still thrilled no less.
"It'll be great to have a fraction of that universe take place not only in my country, but in my home city." Jersey-based Stage Choreographer and a 'Harry Potter' Enthusiast Christopher Jason Liddell, 30, said.
Meanwhile, Rowling shared the inspiration behind the new series was Newt Scamander, whose grandson, Rolf, ended up marrying Luna Lovegood in the best-selling series and movie adaptation.
"Having lived for so long in my fictional universe, I feel very protective of it and," She said.
However, the new series will have a tough act to follow since the 'Harry Potter' films earned $7.7 billion worldwide and is considered as the most lucrative film franchise in history.
In addition to the film franchise, J.K. Rowling's new deal with Warner Bros. also includes several other feats: distribution rights to a television adult miniseries called 'The Casual Vacancy', new theme park attractions for Universal Resort's Harry Potter theme park, and a new slate of video games inspired from the best-selling book.
