Mark Zuckerberg Makes Fun Of Nickelback In Jarvis Reveal, Avril Lavigne Accuses Facebook Founder Of Bullying

Last week, Mark Zuckerberg unveiled his new A.I. assistant, Jarvis, in several videos which showed off what the Morgan Freeman-voiced interactive assistant can do. Zuckerberg proved to be very funny in the videos, but not everyone is laughing as rocker Avril Lavigne slammed the Facebook founder of bullying Canadian band Nickelback in one of the Jarvis preview clips.

In the video which Zuckerberg posted on his Facebook account on Tuesday, Dec. 20, the father-of-one can be heard asking Jarvis to play “some good Nickelback songs.” But Jarvis responded, “I’m sorry Mark. I’m afraid I can’t do that. There are no good Nickelback songs.”

“Good, that was actually a test,” said Zuckerberg.

On Thursday, Lavigne took to Twitter to defend former husband Chad Kroeger and his band, telling Zuckerberg that while he’s allowed to express his musical opinions, his jab at Nickelback was done in poor taste.

“When you have a voice like yours, you may want to consider being more responsible with promoting bullying, especially given what’s going on in the world,” said the “Complicated” singer. Lavigne also pointed out in a series of hashtags that the joke about Nickelback is “so old” and that the band has sold over 50 million albums.

Twitter users have given their take on the issue, choosing to quote Lavigne’s songs in their comments. One fan wrote, “She said you’re a h8er Boi, she said see ya l8er boi” while another tweeted. “Now things are complicated like Avril Lavigne said it would be.” Zuckerberg has yet to respond to Lavigne’s message.

According to Us Weekly, Lavigne split from Kroeger in September 2015 after two years of marriage. However, the two remain friendly as they spent the last Valentine’s Day together and even reunited in the studio in March to work on new songs.

Meanwhile, the majority of the Facebook CEO’s followers have shown their appreciation for his Jarvis videos, noting that being a husband and a father appears to have changed him for the better.

“Is it me or have marriage and fatherhood enhanced your sense of humor?” asked one fan.
