Two men spent three days in the Alaska wilderness after surviving a plane crash they managed to capture on camera. They lived on water and a pack of canned salmon and some trail mix as they embark on a journey towards a town 12 miles away from the crash.
Larry Minton, 65, of Wilkesboro, N.C. was travelling to Alaska for a moose hunt last week, and he was in a small plane with 53-year-old Patrick Williams, when they suddenly experienced engine failure. Apparently, Minton's camera was rolling throughout the unexpected descent, Yahoo! reported.
"I knew that we'd be going down," Minton told "Good Morning America." "The only thing I just said to the good Lord was, 'Oh, Lord, give us a safe landing.' And He did.'"
ABC News reported that although the pilot was able to land on the soft ground, the plane suddenly flipped over, but the two men were left uninjured because they were able to get out of the wreckage on time.
Reports said that the two set off for a town 12 miles away after spending a day and a half at the crash site with no possible rescuers in sight.
"It's like hunting a needle in a haystack," Minton said.
According to ABC News, the two men were lucky to have not only a pack of canned salmon and some trail mix but also a battery-powered GPS, which helped them find their way.
"We'd drink all the water we could and then take a pint with us," Minton said, adding that they walked for three days and were attacked by nasty bugs as they slept.
Fortunately, Alaska state troopers found them in a clearing.
"Praise the Lord that our prayers were answered," Minton's son, Matthew said in the interview.
Nevertheless, Larry Minton is reportedly not allowing the Alaskan misadventure to stop him from engaging on future trips. In fact, he has already scheduled his next hunting trip which will be in New Mexico. His family was surprised on his announcement.
