Kanye West is to face charges with two misdemeanor crimes for a July paparazzi altercation at Los Angeles International Airport, Yahoo! reported Friday.
Kanye West has been charged with one count for attempted grand theft and another for battery for a July 19 altercation with a paparazzo at Los Angeles International Airport, L.A. City Attorney's Office said.
According to the office, a video taken during the altercation showed Kanye West rushing at the photographer and wrestling him to the ground, after the photographer and several colleagues refused to stop taking pictures of West.
Reports said that if the rapper is convicted, he is to face a maximum of six months in prison for each misdemeanor. Kanye's arraignment is set for October 10, but he is not necessarily required to be in court, authorities said.
Yahoo! reported that the paparazzo, Daniel Ramos, filed a lawsuit against Kanye West last month claiming that his right hip was injured due to the altercation. Ramos will be represented by famed celebrity attorney Gloria Allred, whose filing accused West of assault, negligence, battery, and violation of civil rights.
However, West can take solace after the L.A. County district attorney's office determined that Ramos was not at all significantly injured, the Associated Press reported.
This is actually not the first time that the rapper got involved in a brawl against celebrity photographers.
Kanye West got arrested in 2008 at the airport when he and his manager confronted several paparazzi and smashed their cameras. He was then required to complete 50 hours of community service and attend a 12-hour anger management class.
