NYPD Cops Shoot 'Emotionally Disturbed' Man In Times Square But Gets 2 Women Bystanders Wounded In The Process [VIDEO & REPORT]

Times Square shooting: New York police subdued an "emotionally disturbed" man that caused a police shooting near Times Square, but wounded two women bystanders in the process, CNN reported Monday.

Police officers reportedly shot 35-year-old Glenn Broadnax at least three times in a Times Square shooting Saturday night a block west of the famous tourist district, but wounded two women on a nearby corner in the process, police said in a statement issued Sunday.

A cell phone video shot at the scene by a bystander showed how police officers chased Broadnax in the one of New York City's busiest intersections, ABC News reported.

Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said that Broadnax was apparently trying to be run over by cars by walking into traffic in front of the Port Authority bus terminal, adding that the 35-year-old man dodged the police who tried to take him into custody and even mimicked shooting a gun at the officers, which eventually prompted the officers to fire back with real guns, ABC station WABC-TV in New York reported.

"At some time he reached into his pocket, took out his hand and simulated as if he was shooting at them, Kelly said Saturday.

NYPD said two officers fired three shots before Broadnax, who was really unarmed, was brought down using a Taser. He was then charged with obstructing governmental administration, menacing, riot, criminal possession of a controlled substance, disorderly conduct, and controlled substance, the issued statement from the NYPD on Sunday morning said, adding that they are subject to change once Broadnax goes to court.

According to earlier statement from the police, a 54-year-old woman was shot in the knee while a 37-year-old (formerly reported 35) woman was grazed in the buttocks.

CNN reported that the women shot in the knee was listed in stable condition hours after the Times Square shooting while the younger woman had to undergo treatment and was released overnight.

NYPD Sgt. Lee Jones said that the 54-year-old woman underwent surgery for the knee gunshot on her right leg.

Meanwhile, the "emotionally disturbed" Broadnax was taken to Manhattan's Bellevue Hospital, the NYPD Said.

An investigation on the Times Square shooting was under way, Kelly said.

A witness told the media that Broadnax have been apparently hit by a cab and was running around in an attempt to get to the driver when police came and tried to subdue him.

"The guy was in the middle of the street in oncoming traffic and the cops were trying to get him out of the road," Kerri-Ann Nesbeth told CNN. She said the incident left her stunned, adding, "I hear stories when people don't even know they are shot, so I checked myself and realized it was all clear."

The names of the women injured in the Times Square shooting have not been released as of late, ABC News reported.
