3 Ways To Avoid Procrastination

Procrastination is the result of the blurring of lines between work and personal life wherein the former is buried and ignored for the latter. Below you can find tips on how to avoid procrastination and get to be more productive at work.

Use Website Blockers

One very useful tool to prevent oneself from procrastinating is to block websites temporarily. Using a blocker, you can designate a time period that once activated will block the specified web pages until the said duration is over.

This will prevent you from visiting Facebook, Twitter, and other websites you frequent until the designated blocking period is up. Here are some suggested website blockers: Block Site extension for Chrome users, SelfControl for Mac owners, and Cold Turkey for Windows users.

Ask For Deadlines

Some people work well under pressure and there are even others who will not move until the very last minute. Asking your superiors for deadlines can push you to do things faster and avoid procrastination.

Even if a deadline is not announced or necessary, give one to yourself nonetheless and stick to it! Furthermore, refrain from asking your bosses if they allow extensions or are lenient with deadlines because the knowledge of it will only make you all the more reliant on it.

Draw A Line

Separate work stuff and personal stuff by drawing a visible but metaphorical line between them. For instance, use a work only browser or a work only account on your computer.

Refrain from bringing distracting things to work such as pocketbooks and games. If you work from home, it is recommended that you designate a corner of the room or another room entirely as a workstation or office.

In that space, make sure that it is bare of any distracting materials. By drawing and defining a line between work and personal life, you will slowly train yourself to separate the two and avoid procrastination.

These three things do not necessarily apply only to employed individuals but to students as well. Like everything you do, there must always be initiative and willpower to follow through with these pieces of advice.
