Mark Wahlberg has finally graduated from high school at the age of 42, People reported Monday.
The 42-year-old actor has finally received his high school diploma in June, he told People, adding that his four children motivated him to work for the diploma, saying, "I didn't want the kids saying, 'You didn't do it, so why do I need it?' They are all wanting to do things in their future that require an education."
Mark Wahlberg reportedly suffered from a troubled childhood which led to his dropping out in the ninth grade after being charged with attempted murder.
The 'Ted' star said that earning his diploma is "a huge accomplishment."
"It's also a huge sense of relief," Wahlberg said Monday at an event in Irvine, Calif., for the Taco Bell Foundation for Teens, where he presented scholarships to select Taco Bell employees as part of its pilot program. "I wondered, 'Why didn't I do it when I was there?' It's so much harder at 41 going back and trying to do all these difficult tasks."
Wahlberg announced his school plans in June 2012 in his "The Late Show with David Letterman" appearance, where he was quoted saying, "They have this new program in Massachusetts where you can actually take the courses online. So I'm starting this month in New Orleans."
Mark added that he was willing to do coursework while on the filming or production set, and that's what he actually did. He said Monday that he studied while filming '2 Guns,' adding that he tried to keep it a secret from his co-star Denzel Washington.
"Denzel was always asking me what I was doing but I didn't want to share that information with him," he told People. "Nobody knew, because I felt like I don't like to count my chickens before they hatch, so I didn't want to say that I was doing it until I actually finished it. What if I said I'm doing this and I didn't finish it?"
According to the actor himself, he found math the most challenging subject in his online classes, and joked that he despite this, he is still "good at counting money and keeping track of my money.
Wahlberg is now thinking of advancing his education. He said, "I would love to go to USC and study film. I don't want to become a veterinarian or anything, [I want to study] things that further my career and broaden my horizon."
Meanwhile, the actor is tied with a busy schedule since he is working on 'Ted 2' and is to portray lead roles in 'Lone Survivor' and 'Transformers: Age of Extinction.' Plus, he is also to produce several shows including 'Boardwalk Empire,' CBS News reported.
