Dog Receives Education Degree: Donning A Cap & Gown, Golden Retriever Kirsch Gets Honorary Master Of Science In Counseling Diploma [VIDEO & REPORT]

A dog has received a Master's degree recently for attending all of his owner's classes, Yahoo! Shine Reported Friday.

A dog, a golden retriever, has received an honorary Master of Science in Counseling degree recently from Johns Hopkins University School of Education.

According to the report, the Johns Hopkins University School of Education handed a Master's degree to its first four-legged graduate, Kirsch, a golden retriever, who has attend all of the classes of his owner, Carlos Mora, who received the same degree.

Donning a cap and gown, Kirsch walked along with his owner, across the stage while a statement for the two of them was being read.

"Our last counseling degree graduate to walk across the stage tonight is Carlos Mora and his service dog, Kirsch," the statement read. "Since Kirsch sat through every class with Carlos, both will be receiving a master's degree in mental health counseling. We want everyone to know that Kirsch was not charged for his degree."

Similar to the other graduates of the school, Kirsch's diploma was also signed by School of Education Dean David Andrews as well as the school's Vice Dean of Academic Affairs Dr. Cheryl Holcomb-McCoy.

Although this may be a bizarre and rare event, this is actually not the first time that a domesticated dog had participated in a graduation ceremony, according to Yahoo! Shine. However, this may be the first time a dog has received a higher Education diploma.

An earlier account revealed that in early 2013, a chocolate Labrador named Hero also wore a cap and gown as he escorted his wheelchair-bound owner at her graduation from the University of Illinois, Urbana Campaign.

In addition, another four-legged, an Indiana high school comfort dog named Prince led the graduates in 2013 to the football field for their convocation.
