Aldon Smith Arrested After Truck Strikes Tree? Why Police Suspects 49ers Linebacker Is Driving Under Influence of Alcohol & Marijuana [VIDEO & REPORT]

Aldon Smith was arrested after his truck struck a tree in San Jose, Santa Clara. Police suspected Smith of driving under the influence of alcohol and marijuana possession, ESPN reported Friday.

San Francisco 49ers All-Pro linebacker, Aldon Smith was arrested and apparently released hours after his pickup truck has crashed against a tree; authorities believed Smith was driving under the influence and suspected him of marijuana possession as well.

Authorities said, Smith headed to the practice field with his teammates Friday afternoon in their Santa Clara headquarters after he was released from jail. The linebacker is scheduled for court appearance on Nov. 4.

"I expect Aldon to be back at work and play on Sunday," 49ers Coach Jim Harbaugh said, referencing to the team's hosting the Indianapolis Colts at Candlestick Park Sunday.

ESPN reported that the San Francisco 49ers had issued a statement shortly after the arrest of Smith.

"The 49ers organization is aware of the matter involving Aldon Smith. As we continue to gather information regarding this situation, we will have no further comment," the team said in a statement.

San Jose, Santa Clara County Sheriff's Sgt. Kurtis Stenderup said the 23-year-old was released after the linebacker posted a $5,250 bail Friday morning.

Sgt. Heather Randol said Aldon Smith had been arrested by San Jose police after they received a call from a resident about Smith's pickup truck crashing in the city's Silver Creek area at around 7 a.m.

Reports stated that Smith's truck had apparently stricken a tree before it hit the curb, leaving streak marks on a driveway and sidewalk, which lead the responding officers to have him undergo a breath test and a few other DUI tests.

"They conducted an investigation and determined he was under the influence," Randol said. "He was the only person inside the vehicle."

In January 2012, Aldon Smith, who played his first Pro Bowl and helped the team land a place in the Super Bowl last season, was arrested for driving under the influence in Miami Beach.

The linebacker, who is to turn 24 on Wednesday, has also been involved in a lawsuit filed early this month, claiming that he was the man behind the shooting during a party in his own house, which wounded a Northern California man.
