Polich Tallix Inc. is the small business that sculpts the Oscar statuette since 2015. Although the project accounts for only 1 percent of its annual business, it is a big one, said the executive vice president of the firm.
According to its official website, the company has been around since 1984 and has been creating works of art all over the world. It first landed the Oscar deal in 2015 when the Academy wanted the statuette to be cast in bronze just like the original one by George Stanley, said Polich Tallix.
Founder Dick Polich shared that the firm has never before made an object that is widely known and recognized. The manufacturing of the statuette took three and a half months, having had to go through a process of 12 steps, says Adam Demchack, who is the executive vice president, CNBC wrote.
Furthermore, it is not just the statues that are made but the nametags as well. Every nominee has a nametag and the names of the winners are only affixed onto the Oscar after the event. The 89th Academy Awards had 250 nominees.
Demchak also said that the project only covers 1 percent of Polich Tallix's business but that it is a big, fun, and exciting project. Almost every one of the company's employees was involved in it.
Considering the popularity of the statuette, its production has brought good PR and attention to the small firm. Furthermore, CNBC reported that Demchak said he enjoys seeing the reactions of many people when they find out that they create the actual statuettes.
He said that it changes the people's mood when they realize that Polich Tallix makes the Oscars and especially when they are given the chance to hold one. It is what makes the job fun, said Demchak.
