Bonnie & Clyde, the iconic crime couple our granny's loved 80 years ago, are back, and this time they are to hit the small screen in the upcoming joint miniseries from A&E, Lifetime, and History Channel.
Although Bonnie & Clyde have already been six feet under for almost a century, Hollywood has not stopped from remaking and re-casting the outlaw lovebirds over several decades. Juicy material about Bonnie Parker and Clyde have even bagged Oscars and obtained several Tony nominations, so could the next one land an Emmy?
According to Yahoo! News, the answer is "quite possibly" since the new miniseries is a promising depiction amongst all early depictions of the famous crime partners.
The new Bonnie & Clyde, a two-night, four-hour miniseries, which officially airs December 8-9, will feature Holliday Grainger ("The Borgias") and Emile Hirsch ("Into the Wild") as the titular couple of the show. Alongside the two is a bevy of talented co-stars including: Oscar winner William Hurt as Frank Hamer, the Texas Ranger who is to track down the duo; Oscar winner Holly Hunter as Bonnie's mother, Emma; "Modern Family" actress Sarah Hyland as Clyde's sister-in-law, Blanche Barron; and "Prison Break" alum Lane Garrison as Clyde's brother, Buck Barrow.
The A&E/History Channel/Lifetime Bonnie & Clyde miniseries is directed by Bruce Beresford, who is famous for "Driving Miss Daisy" and for receiving an Oscar nomination for Best Director for "Tender Mercies."
The small-screen remake will simultaneously air on all three networks each night at 9 p.m.
The cable miniseries centers on the exploits of Parker and Barrow, who are being hunted down for committing a string of robberies and murders throughout middle America during the Great Depression. The notorious couple is being sought through repeating anecdotes of their violent records.
In the history of Hollywood remakes of the titular couple, the 1967 movie with Faye Dunway and Warren Beatty as leads, was the most extravagantly recognized by the Oscars. It also starred Gene Hackman as Buck as well as "The Dukes of Hazzard" actor Denver Pyle as Hamer. "Roseanne" star Estelle Parsons even bagged the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role as Blanche in the flick.
Other famous adaptations include: a 1992 TV movie, starring "Twin Peaks" alum Dana Ashbrook as Clyde and "Breaking Bad" star Michael Bowen (Uncle Jack) as Buck, and a Tony-nominated Broadway musical that ran for four weeks in 2011.
Bonnie & Clyde airs December 8 and 9 at 9 p.m. on A&E, History Channel, and Lifetime.
