Dodgers Fan Dies During Rivalry-Fueled Fight; Giants & Dodgers Consider Security Increase [VIDEO & REPORT]

A Dodgers fan has died in a rivalry-fueled fight after he was stabbed to death by a group of people rooting for the other team Wednesday night just four blocks from the AT&T Park at Third and Harrison streets, Washington Post reported Thursday.

A 24-year-old Dodgers fan has died after he was stabbed to death at around 11:30 p.m. PDT just a few minutes after the game between the Dodgers and Giants in San Francisco.

Police said two men have been arrested after the Dodgers fan - identified as Jonathan Denver - died at San Francisco General Hospital. San Francisco Police Chief Greg Suhr refused to name the suspects, but he said that two suspects involved in the fatal stabbing of the Dodgers fan remain at large.

"There is no place at these games for violence," Suhr said. "Nobody's life should be at stake...Be respectful of everybody wanting to root for whoever they want to root for."

Authorities told CBS San Francisco Denver was walking with his father, brother, and two other people after a 6-4 Giants victory game, when a random verbal disagreement with other men rooting for the other time suddenly turned violent.

Suhr said one of the two men who are in custody as of late is to face homicide charges sometime Thursday.

"One of the suspects that was in custody has made incriminating statements and will be charged with Mr. Denver's homicide," Suhr said in an afternoon briefing. "We're still continuing the investigation in regards to what will happen the other suspect that's in custody."

The Dodgers fan reportedly traveled to San Francisco from Fort Bragg, California with his family to support the Dodgers team. He was a plumbing apprentice and the son of one of Dodgers security personnel.

"He was just a very nice young man. He wanted to be a plumber," Cas Smith, Denver's employer said. "He was very promising. He was one of our best apprentices. It's sad."

Meanwhile, the Giants and Dodgers are to play again tonight, but the teams are now considering whether they are to increase security after what happened.

"We're obviously very concerned about the situation," Giants spokesperson Staci Slaughter said. "and trying to understand exactly what happened."

StarAdvertiser reported that the Giants and Dodgers have been longtime division rivals, and every game they are pitted against each other tends to lead fans passions to run high.

In the 2011 season opener in Los Angeles, another violent incident was reported after Giants fan Bryan Stow was beaten in a Dodger Stadium parking lot. The Giants had reportedly held a fun-raiser for the fan, a paramedic who suffered from brain injuries.
