“Krokodil” AKA Flesh Rotting Zombie Drug Now in the USA

Alarming news for United States residents- A very potent heroin-like drug that is said to rot bone and flesh has “officially” appeared in the country. Recently, 2 cases in Arizona were reported involving “Krokodil”, a homemade opiate that is produced by mixing over-the-counter codeine-based headache tablets with gasoline, iodine and paint thinner. Krokodil’s effects are proving to be extremely alarming, as it is showing that once it is injected into the skin, it can destroy the tissue, thereby transforming the skin into that resembling of a crocodile’s- greenish and scaly. Besides the change in appearance, it is also expected for the skin to develop festering sores, some abscess, and for the user to experience blood poisoning.

Apparently, two cases of Krokodil surfaced during the week in Arizona. This information was gathered from Arizona health officials.

As far as authorities are aware, the two cases are the very first that have been reported in the US. They also went on to say that they were “very frightened” because of the incident and its implications.

Krokodil, chemically known as Desomorphine can be traced back to Siberia and Russia and goes back as far as 2002. However, it has only been in the last 3 years that Krokodil has really swept over Russia.

Because heroin is expensive and hard to obtain in Russia, heroin users attempted to look for other alternatives. Krokodil fit the bill as it costs three times less than heroin, while still producing a similar high.

Individuals who start taking Krokodil have a life expectancy of only two to three years. It has earned the title as “the most horrible drug in the world”. It is common for Krokodil addicts to develop gangrene, and as a result, get amputations. The drug is also known to “melt” jawbones and teeth.
