Microsoft has introduced two new tablets, the Surface Pro 2 and the Surface 2, in an exclusive NYC launching event yesterday. While the Surface Pro 2 is regarded as the ultimate tablet because of its impeccable features and performance speed-wise, we can't help but give credit to Microsoft for its Surface 2 all the same.
The Microsoft Surface 2 is obviously the improved version of Surface RT, so it has everything that every Surface RT user is familiar with the addition of upgraded and features and whatnot.
Similar to Surface pro 2, the Surface 2 also flaunts an enhanced display department that features a full 1080p ClearType display technology as opposed to the 768p found in the previous model. The new display technology is less reflective, making it easier for users to go outdoors without having to squint while using the tablet.
Another remarkable addition to the Surface 2 is the two-shot kickstand, a very useful feature that enables users to use their tablet either at a table or on their laps.
The Surface 2 is designed to be much thinner than the Surface RT. Made from two sheets of magnesium, it is not surprising how the device resemble other tablets in terms of weight, such as the Galaxy Tab or the iPad.
Microsoft has also incorporated a boost in the tablet's battery life of up to 25% more than its previous model. The company now claims that the powerful yet lightweight device can go for hours and even "lasts all day."
When it comes to performance, the Surface 2 is three to four times faster than RT all thanks to its NVIDIA Tegra 4 chipset and 2GB of RAM. Multitasking, opening and closing apps, and even switching through sites have become notably faster.
The inclusions of USB 3.0 and a front-facing camera that features a 1/3 inch sensor are also expected to increase the hype over the product.
Nevertheless, it seems that Microsoft has not given up on its Windows RT 8 suite as the new Surface 2 will feature Windows RT 8.1 on its official release in October. But, the good news is the Surface 2 will really feel nice in the hands with its smoother and faster processing speed.
The Microsoft Surface 2 will be available starting October 22 and pricing begins at $449. It will come in two options: a 32 GB and a 64GB version, with pre-installed Windows RT 8.1 and Office 2013 RT. Included in the package is 200 GB of SkyDrive, enough to last for two years staring from the time one has purchased the device.
