Warning: There is a spoiler alert in this article. Those who have not yet seen Homeland's third season premier should not read this post!
"How can the CIA protect the country when it isn't even capable of protecting itself?"
This was what the committee who was responsible for investigating the Langley bombing asked Claire Dane's character. Danes' character could not answer the investigating team.
Damian Lewis who plays Brody in the series, was notably absent from the season premier, but that doesn't mean that his presence wasn't felt. Brody was very much talked about, and questions about his character and how he could affect Homeland's plot line were also raised.
Carrie, the person who continues to search for Brody, and who is incidentally, also off her meds, got busy at the premier, as she attempted to answer the many questions that the CIA had after the bombing from last season's finale. It was concluded that Senator Lockheart, is trying to get not only the CIA, but Carrie herself. Lockheart is not working alone, as he has had someone leak information to the committee, including the very important document that promises Brody if he assists them in finding Abu Nazir. Carrie talks about her whole situation to Saul, CIA's new director, and tells him of her suspicions that she was ambushed, as the document was supposed to be a secret.
Then, a person leaks Brody and Carrie's relationship and tells the press. This puts Carrie in an awkward position, and the blame may possibly be put on her. Carrie turns the blame on Saul and confronts him. Saul claims his innocence but suspects that Adal leaked on Carrie. Audiences are left wondering as to who really did the talking.
This was only one storyline in Homeland's season 3 premier. It promises to be a very exciting third season up ahead.
