A Giant Duck Invades Pittsburg’s Three Rivers

The Three Rivers, in Pittsburg, has gotten an unexpected visitor that they have never had before. A giant 40-foot rubber duck, or rather, rubber duckie, is schedule to visit their city.

That giant duck has been known to bring happiness and joy to spectators. Previously, it was sighted in Hong Kong and Sydney. The duck was designed by Dutch artist Florentijn Hoffman. There has been much encouragement to bring the duck to California through a Facebook petition. However, San Francisco lost the bid to host the duck. The good news is, the duck still managed to find its way to the US, and is currently in Pittsburg.

The duck is in town to celebrate Pittsburg's the launch of the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust's Pittsburgh International Festival Of Firsts. The launch kicked off on Friday, September 27 and will run for a whole month, commencing in October 26. From a secret location, the duck will be towed across both Ohio and Allegheny rivers. With the duck being 30 feet wide and 40 feet tall, it is bound to turn heads during its tour. The duck will also have security protecting it, as well as video surveillance. This means that those who may have plans to jump into the water and swim with the duck will not be allowed to do so.

The artist has been working on his duck project for about 12 years now. He says he wanted something to show that we all live in one planet, and all the waters of the world are a global bathtub for the duckie. The duck project is an attempt to join different people from different countries together. It also has another goal, and that is to spread joy and happiness wherever it finds itself in.
