It all started casually enough: Miley said she drew inspiration from Sinead O'Connor for her new look and for her "Wrecking Ball" music video, to which Sinead O'Connor chose to respond to with her first open letter.
The first open letter contained O'Connor expressing her concern about Cyrus' recent career choices, basically urging her to do the right thing and to not "prostitute herself" to the music industry.
Sparks flew and started a fire when Miley responded with screencapping O'Connor's tweets that put focus on her mental image, comparing her to Amanda Bynes.
Sinead O'Connor then posted her second open letter.
The second letter slams Cyrus for mocking people who had problems with their mental health, calling her "stupid," and "a danger to women."
O'Connor, who has been open about her mental health, expressed her disappointment for the dismissiveness of Miley Cyrus' response:
"It is most unbecoming of you to respond in such a fashion to someone who expressed care for you. And worse that you are such an anti-female tool of the anti-female music industry... And I hope that you will wake up and understand that you in fact are a danger to women."
Miley Cyrus' response? She tweets:
"Sinead. I don't have time to write you an open letter cause Im hosting and performing on SNL this week."
"So if youd like to meet up and talk lemme know in your next letter. : )"
And Sinead O'Connor responded-with yet another open letter.
"I have no interest whatsoever in meeting you," the third letter begins. The letters are posted on Sinead O'Connor's facebook page. She makes mention of several of her own controversial deeds in the past, such as her tearing up a photo of the pope to protest sexual abuse suffered by children at the hands of clergymen.
Sinead O'Connor is an multi-award winning Irish musician who rose to fame in the 1980's, and has been known for several controversies. She is also an ordained priest.
