Kendrick Lamar Claims Absolute Monarchy at the 2013 BET Hip-Hop Awards; Drake In Crosshairs

Kendrick Lamar has created quite a bit of buzz in the past year and last night was no different. During the TDE cypher, Lamar's verse steps up and delivers a bang that has all of hip-hop listening once again. For those that don't know, Lamar, 26, has garnered much success for his major label debut "good kidd m.A.A.d City" which dropped in 2012.  He also created a hullabaloo with his guest feature on Big Sean's" Control" single, when he single handily claimed a crown that sat on Jay-Z's head for many years.

Armed with rhymes to all rappers to come take it from him if they want it a few responded with little to no avail. There was much fanfare already brewing leading into last night's telecast; when Lamar took on the last verse of the freestyle performance. His verse is smooth and calculating, clever and articulating, arrogant and boastful. A young Kanye should be proud, but I'm guessing he's busy mushing a camera, and telling the paparazzi not speak to him of course.

Back to the goods of this cypher. Lamar's first line was directed at Drake who surprisingly is being very cavalier about the vernacular coming from the west coast MC. In a recent interview with Billboard Drake didn't even acknowledge Lamar's Control verse, stating "I didn't have anything to say about it, it just sounded like an ambitious thought to me. That's all it was. I know good and well that Kendrick's not murdering me, at all, in any platform. So when that day presents itself, I guess we can revisit the topic". Ouch! I guess Drake has some shots of his own he wants to fire.

After watching this cypher however, I think the day of reckoning is upon us and it's time to revisit the topic. Not only has Lamar claimed both coasts, called out rappers by name some by their government, and is otherwise killing game to say the least right now, Drake and any other rapper would be remiss to not say something. If hip-hop is the pulse and Lamar has his hands on it, hip-hop fans we are now witnessing the coronation of King Kendrick with nothing other than his say so.
