Apple iPhone 5S Vs. Nokia Lumia 1020: War Between Specs, Design, & Special Features!

The smartphone competition is becoming tighter and tighter every year, and with the launching of the latest iPhone, we sure do know that the Android and Windows platforms have pretty much a lot of things to do if they want to keep up with the competition. For now though, we are going to narrow down our options into two: the iPhone 5S and the Lumia 1020. Though these two smartphones are worlds apart, they match each other as the best and latest devices from their respective companies. And for people who want to make that big switch (if possible) or for those who simply want to know what they are missing, here's a quick look on the special specs and features that each of these smartphones sport.

Apple iPhone 5S over Nokia Lumia 1020

Though still way behind in terms of size, with only a 4-incher screen to satiate its fans, there are still a lot of things that the Apple iPhone 5S has to offer. First is the advantage of its smaller and more compact form. Apple seems to not mind the gushing number of monster phones being manufactured since it is still focusing on creating a phone that is just right to fit our pockets and one that is easy to hold and navigate using just one hand. What makes it more special is the fact that it has a premium aluminum build, which is quite rare nowadays, knowing that most Android companies would simply invest on plastic so as not to add more baggage to the price of their devices.

As expected from the newest iPhone, it simply slams not only its predecessors but as well as its rival phones in terms of performance and speed. We should put the credit for this one on iPhone 5S' 64-bit Apple A7 chipset and PowerVR (Series 6) G6430 GPU that make the device's performance second to none.

Apple's new iOS 7 makes up for iPhone 5S' unchanging look. Although this all new installment is supposed to be an upgrade of the iPhone 5, we cannot really tell the difference in terms of design until we turn on the device or use its home button. The iOS7 just gives the phone a new feel and a fresh look. But of course some of its predecessors are entitled of updating their software as well. Alongside the iOS 7 is the new and improved Siri voice assistant, which now comes with changeable voice and many other command-based options.

Another feat that sets the standard of the Apple devices above the Windows platform per se is the impressively rich App Store. It is not unknown to all that Windows still has a long way to go to reach the number of apps available in Apple's app universe.

Finally, Apple really knows how to make its devices rule the market by adding a breakthrough feature - its Touch ID fingerprint scanner. This is perhaps the most interesting feature the company has added to its device that contributed to its new sales record upon launching this year.

Nokia Lumia 1020 over Apple iPhone 5S

It is undeniable that the Nokia Lumia 1020 is the most powerful smartphone running Windows Phone OS as of late. And just like Apple's iPhone 5S, this device also has its good points and great features to offer. And the most obvious one is its 41 MP camera, which is quite remarkable not only because it is protruding on its back, but because of the almost limitless possibilities it can offer when it comes to snapping photos. It has an optical image stabilization feature that is prevents drastic shaking of video recordings. It comes with Xenon and LED flash, Carl Zeiss optics, and auto/manual focus. It has a note-worthy 4x lossless digital zoom, and high-amplitude audio capture (HAAC) microphones that allow users to record video even in the noisiest events such as concerts without compromising video and audio quality.

Compared to Apple's pure aluminum build, the Nokia Lumia 1020 sports a polycarbonate uni-body, which actually feels good to the hand than other devices that come in the same material. Perhaps, it's the design of the smartphone that gives its polycarbonate material a more premium feel. Gripping it using one or two hands comes naturally because it doesn't at all have that slippery feel. It even gives the phone its distinct appearance that goes well with the Windows Phone interface.

The Nokia Lumia 1020 comes with AMOLED display on its 4.5-inch screen, which we admit is very impressive. Packing 332 pixel per density on its display makes this phone a better pick compared to the iPhone 5S, although of course, one cannot see the difference until they are being held side-by-side. There is a noticeable difference between the saturation and vibrancy of the colors, and for most part the upper hand goes to the Lumia 1020.

Other features that make the Nokia Lumia 1020 stand out include: the MS Office, Nokia Drive+, Nokia Pro Cam, and Nokia Creative Studio. All these features may be present in other Nokia Windows devices, but the Lumia 1020 comes with the most updated ones.

The only weak point for the Nokia Lumia 1020 though is its battery life. Although of course, we all know that Apple's iPhone 5S and perhaps all of its other iPhones are playing only between 9 to 12 hours of continuous use, the Lumia 1020 barely lasts a satisfactory 8-hour battery life when mobile data or wifi remains active.
