[BREAKING] Kabul Convoy Attack: Suicide Convoy Bomber Detonates Bomb In Foreigners' Residential Compound; 2 Civilians Dead, 4 Others Injured

A Kabul convoy attack happened in a residential compound, where foreign forces are staying. A suicide car bomber allegedly detonated a bomb in the area in the Kabul outskirts, killing two passers-by, New York Times reported Friday.

According to the report the Kabul convoy attack had destroyed two vehicles primarily used "by foreigners" near the compound called Green Village.

A suicide car bomber allegedly detonated the bomb, but it was fortunate that no one was inside the vehicles, Interior Ministry Spokesman Sediq Sediqi said.

Meanwhile, two civilians, who were simply passing by the area near the convoy attack, were killed by the explosion, police said, refusing to name the civilians for he was not authorized to speak to the media.

"A small car packed with explosives hit two vehicles as they were exiting the Green Village compound," Sediqi said, adding that four other civilians were injured.

The Green Village compound was said to be the main target of the bombing, according to Kabul Police Chief Gen. Mohammad Zahir.

Just hours after the incident, Taliban Spokesman Zalibullah Mujahid announced that he is claiming the responsibility for the convoy blast and confirming the idea that it the Green Village was indeed the target of the suicide car bomber.

The NATO-led International Security Assistance Force said in a statement that the convoy attack happened in Kabul, adding that "there was one enemy killed as a result of the attack... [but there were] no operational reports of ISAF personnel fatalities."

Yahoo! News reported that the "Afghan capital has been relatively peaceful in recent months."

The report also stated that the Friday Kabul convoy attack is the first major life-threatening incident since July.

The US has been pushing for peace talks to arbitrarily allow the NATO combat troops to leave Afghanistan early next year.
