Drug Tunnel Links San Diego to Tijuana

San Diego is beginning to find their neighbors coming in the back door, as drug tunnel was found linking the city to Tijuana . U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement shut down the tunnel they are calling highly sophisticated down before it was put to use and confiscated thirty tons of marijuana in the process.

The tunnel like another that had been discovered had lighting and a rail system. Since 2008 more than n 75 tunnels have been discovered along the U.S.-Mexico border. This has prompted the formation of a special task force whose job is to locate tunnels . They are designed to smuggle marijuana to the United States.

San Diego has become popular for this because it's easy to dig in its clay-like soil and the U.S. side of the border is home to many warehouses. The drug cartel made this one an easy target as it was built a block away from another tunnel that got shut down in 2011, the 2011 tunnel was much like this one , stuffed with 32 tons of marijuana and was equipped with electric rail cars, lighting and ventilation.

While this became more of a crime epidemic in the past seven year, this is hardly a new practice as it was occurring as far back as 17th-century Cornwall England. Mexican cartels seem to have trouble sticking with what they start, and might want to employ day laborers as most of the 150 tunnels found since 1990, have been incomplete.

So far the longest tunnel that was found, ran 2,600 feet and was built in 2010. In the past four years the more sophisticated models have begun to crop up. It is speculated that these could have been built in conjunction with legal weed producers which now have large plantation styled empires for themselves and parts of California have now become like the wild west due to the proliferation. These tunnels that run the border, have been accused of being a threat to immigration and national security as terrorists might come into the country though the southern border. This is not a problem unique to America as , Canada, Britain and the Ukraine all experience as growing number of smuggling tunnels. Ukraine finds the tunnels are constructed using professional mining and security technologies, for the smuggling of cigarettes, which are sold on the black market their much like drugs in the United States
