Both young chefs have been known throughout the show as being the most skilled in their batch. Dara, with her signature big bows, is competitive and was the only young chef to masterfully concoct a stunning layer cake, with which her peers had some difficulty. Meanwhile, Alexander it a top contender, with many other contestants actively seeking to have him eliminated for his skill and ambition with coming up with sophisticated dishes.
Final Round
Appetizers
Dara: Ahi Tuna Duo - Dara follows her Asian heritage by cooking tuna two ways: poke, to show off flavor, and seared to showcase skill.
Alexander: Basil-Lemon Shrimp with baby heirloom tomatoes, and crostini with roasted red pepper puree- Alexander may have bitten off more than he can chew with such an overcomplicated starter!
Judges' decision: The judges hand the lead to Dara, for her technical skill.
Entrees
Dara: Pan Seared Spotted Prawns with Wontons in a Thai Curry Sauce- Dara worries that her shrimp may be too overcooked! Will the judges agree?
Alexander: Pan-Seared Veal Chop with Potato Gnocchi- Alexander says he cooks this a lot at home.
Judges' decision: The judges are mightily impressed with how Alexander cooked his veal, giving him reign in this round.
Dessert
Dara: Poached Pear in a Lemon Ginger Miso Glaze- the judges are initially wary of her using miso in a dessert, but will the end product win them over?
Alexander: Deconstructed Cannoli Napoleon with a Mixed Berry Sauce- Alexander pays homage to a classic, while doing a modern twist.
Judges' decision...they loved Dara's take on poached pear, and adore Alexander's sweet treat.
