For Mentalist fans, the show didn't disappoint them in terms of the suspense and thrill elements that the Red John arc has to offer, but missing a fixed airtime last week for its Mentalist season 6 episode 6 was a different story. For one, show fans who waited patiently and eagerly to witness how the Red John arc ends didn't get what they deserve. Aside from the networks failure to keep its promised late airing of the latest episode for the television series - thanks to the NFL the episode was said to air at 10:59 p.m. ET - fans who stayed up late were left disappointed when no word was given that the episode was not going to air at all.
According to CarterMatt the thing that led CBS to cancel its airing last week was the fear that not everyone will be staying up that late - since New York and Miami fans will have to stay up until almost midnight just to watch the show - so instead the network decided to run a repeat episode. International Business Times reported that although CBS' decision was reasonable enough, leaving show fans, who waited that long, hanging and without any prior notice that Mentalist season 6 episode 6 will not be shown as scheduled was just detestable for them.
On the other hand, while the Canadian broadcast CTW also tweeted that day that Mentalist season 6 episode 6 "Fire and Brimstone" will be airing that night on their channel, fans were also left wondering why the episode didn't air. But CTV, on its part, simply said that it didn't want a part of the country spoiled with the latest and by far the most interesting episode for the Red John arc.
Fans who were very disappointed of the cancelled airing took it to social media and other sites.
A Charlie Johnston commented on CarterMatt's page saying, "I was very unhappy. I love the show and had no clue it was not going to be the one promoted all week long. I would have understood the timing problems out east - but for heavens sakes tell us."
Although episode 6 didn't air last Sunday, we are now spoiled with the preview for the next episode, which is already all over the internet. And this just gives away some important details on what is about to happen in tonight's show.
So now the network's decision to release the preview for Mentalist season 6 episode 7 is being criticized as well.
Jake, who read the article on CarterMatt's page about the release of the preview for the next episode although Mentalist season 6 episode 6 has not been aired yet, wrote, "they basically ruined an entire episode and wasted regular viewers' time."
