Last week's "Platonish" episode was a very delightful flashback episode especially when Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) faced some challenges Robin and Lily (Alyson Hannigan) cooked for him. This week, Barney engages into a challenge he himself has made, and it has something to do with his parents, who are coming for the weekend wedding. We already met Loretta Stinson (Frances Conroy) in this season, and the last time we did, it was during one of the most "egg-stravaganza" events in the HIMYM history with his son's soon-to-be wife, Robin (Cobie Smulders). This time we are going to witness the other side of Loretta especially now that Barney's biological father, Jerome Whittaker (John Lithgow) is around. In a sneak peek to How I Met Your Mother season 9 episode 10, titled "Mom and Dad," we can see Barney getting all-excited over his estranged parents' reunion. "My mom and dad are getting back together again," Barney can be heard telling Robin. Then, he follows it up in another scene with: "They're totally in love, I know, it's amazing, I'm walking on air, my family's going to be whole again!" The preview then questions whether Barney is playing cupid for his parents. And he obviously is. In another scene, we can see Barney dumping a bucket of water on to his mom and dad as part of his plan to have them undress and spend some time together. "Just disrobe and send up those wet clothes," he tells them. Nevertheless, we can see that the rest of the gang including Robin isn't really that convinced with his tricky plan. In another promo clip we can see Barney and James (Wayne Brady) arguing over their parents' reunion. James is Loretta's son with Sam Gibbs, who is apparently married to another woman and already has two kids of their own. However, James also feels the urge to intervene in order for him to reunite his family again. But Barney feels that he has more chances of reuniting his parents' than James does. Later we will even witness how these two are going to imagine the reconciliation of their parents, and one of them will even imagine his parents reuniting through a hilarious vintage song performance.
