For those searching for a gadget to give this Christmas, Microsoft has made it easier to find the right one. The original Microsoft Surface tablet's price has been reduced significantly in time for Black Friday.
From its original, introductory price of $499, the Microsoft Surface is not only $199. The laptop-tablet hybrid is on sale online so shoppers needn't brave the long lines and rowdy crowds that Black Friday is known for. The Surface Pro is also getting a price reduction with Microsoft slicing $50 off its tag. From $449 the 64GB slab can be bought for only $399.
Though not the most impressive gadget in the market, the Surface is still a wise investment especially for fans of the Windows 8 ecosystem that are looking for something more affordable. The table it run on a 1.3GHz quad-core Tegra 3 CPU with 2GB of RAM.
Last September, Microsoft launched the Microsoft Surface 2, the next generation tablet-laptop mix. Though without too much difference in physical appearance, the Surface 2 is a notable upgrade from its predecessor. It is powered by a 1.7GHz quad-core Tegra 4 CPU that makes this incarnation faster and easier to use. The Microsoft Surface 2 also has a lower kickstand angle, making it more flexible and comfortable to utilize. The new slab is also lighter than the original, giving its users a more mobile gadget.
The Surface 2 is not without its faults. Like the original, the newest upgrade is still lacking in legacy windows programs. Users may have to get by with the Microsoft Office 2013. It also lacks significant app support. When comparing the Surface 2 with its competitors, there is a huge gap between what Apple, Google and Amazon can provide its users when it comes to the variety of apps available. The Surface 2 retails at $449.
