A Mozambique Airlines flight crashed Friday, burning all of its 33 on-board passengers and crewmembers just prior to reaching its destination in Angola.
Flight TM 470 was bound to reach Angola after leaving Maputo Friday 11:26 a.m., however, it never reached its destination. Instead, it fell from the sky and killed all of its 27 passengers as well as the on-board crewmembers of the flight.
According to several reports, the air traffic controllers lost contact with the Mozambique Airlines plane before it crashed. Thus, the aircraft investigation unit of Namibia had enlisted the help of a helicopter to find the missing aircraft. Unfortunately, the search operation was stopped Friday and resumed only on Saturday due to heavy rain.
After long hours of searching the vast area for the Mozambique Airlines crash vehicle, the wreckage was found in Bwabwata National Park, which is located near the borders of Angola and Botswana. A Namibian police force deputy commissioner said that there were no survivors in the crash and that the burnt bodies were scattered all over the area.
Although initial reports say that the Mozambique Airlines crash was due to the bad weather and the poor visibility at the time of the flight that led to the accident, investigation is still on-going as of late.
Aside from the six crewmembers, the passengers of the Mozambique Airlines plane, identified as an Embraer 190, comprise 10 Mozambicans, 9 Angolans, 5 Portuguese, 1 French, 1 Brazilian, and 1 Chinese.
