A dancer acid attack has led a court to sentence a former top dancer from Russia's well-known Bolshoi ballet troupe to six years in prison after he was found guilty of masterminding a horrifying acid attack against the theater's artistic director early 2013.
Pavel Dmitrichenko was sentenced by a Moscow judge to six years in prison for masterminding a vicious attack against their theater's artistic director. He hired a man to carry out the planned attack, and the man is now facing 10 years imprisonment.
Bolshoi is famous for being a centuries-old ballet company, thus the scandal involving an acid was big of a deal to the theater's patrons.
The artistic director was identified as Sergei Filin, and according to multiple sources, he nearly got blinded when a man intentionally splashed acid on his face while he was walking on a snowy night last January. He was said to be heading to his apartment when the attack happened.
Six weeks after the incident, Dmitrichenko was detained and charged with masterminding the attack.
Initially, the famous dancer admitted his guilt, but later on completely denied the deed of ordering someone to splash acid on the director's face.
According to ABC News, the judge ruled that Dmitrichenko planned the revenge when his girlfriend, a Bolshoi ballerina, was "repeatedly passed over for top roles."
Several witnesses even revealed in court that there is rampant nepotism and corruption at the theater, complaining about money and favors taking part in order for ballerinas to take on coveted roles.
