Uggs Not Ugh: How the World's Most Hated Boots Came Up On Top This Black Friday

Though widely known as a fashion faux pas, Ugg boots (also known as plain 'Uggs') continue to be a top gift this holiday season. Ranking in at fourth most searched item in Google's Black Friday top trending gift list, according to the Huffington Post, the unsightly boots prove that they have the staying power to stand the test of time.

Uggs has gotten a bad reputation over the years as the ugliest pair of shoes that a woman could ever wear. However, year after year, boyfriends and husbands come in droves to buy them. Retailing at $300 to $700, the mysteriously trendy shoe has always found its way to the consumerist's heart or should we say the consumerist's feet?

The increase in Uggs demand could also be chalked up to the drop in temperature. As the weather gets colder, more and more women slip into these puffy boots for a slice of comfort and relief. But it isn't just creature comforts that have made Uggs the shoe of the moment. From the classic pair to its Swarovski encrusted counterparts, men have been looking at these boots as the new scented candle-which is to say that it is the new go-to gift for the male species. Most of who have no clue as to what their wives and girlfriends want.

The Cyber Week Awards, a website devoted to tracking the best deals and products of the holiday season, also deemed he snug shoes as an "excellent choice for men to purchase as a gift for their wife or girlfriend" in a press release.

Love them or hate them, it seems like the world's most trash talked boots are having a fashion moment. An at least for now, lounging around the fire or walking around the cold house, women's feet can breathe a little easier.
