Every girl dreams of becoming a princess, if only to get the amazing wardrobe that comes with the territory. No one has embodied this fantasy better than the late princess Diana who has come up with some of the most breathtaking fashion moments of her time. Even now, her iconic gowns fetch a fortune. Case in point: an ornate gown designed by David and Elizabeth Emanuel that recently sold for 102,000 pounds in an auction.
Kerry Taylor Auctions in London recently sold off an Emanuel Bakst inspired ball gown from the Emanuels' 'Diaghilev' collection. According to the auction house's website the dress is one of the most elaborate and romantic of the beloved princess' gowns. "It comes with matching headband, optional sleeve panels and petticoat. The dress has a pretty, fairy-tale princess feel to it-with its opulent, shimmering gold panels, jewel-like rhinestones and pearl adornments," the press release states.
It has been said that Diana fell in love with the dress immediately as soon as she saw it off the collection. Though it was not specifically made for her, she was beyond thrilled to acquire a standard size 10 from the collection.
The fairy tale dress, which was sold to an unrevealed museum out of the country, was famously worn at a banquet in a German Ambassador's residence in London in July 1986. Its next appearance was made on the same month at the Royal Opera House for a performance of Ivan the Terrible. It was worn again, a year after, to the James Bond film Living Daylights in Leicester Square in June 1987.
Arguably, the most popular 'Diana dress' is still her wedding dress, a dress that was made by the same designers. That outfit, though, still remains with the travelling Diana: a Celebration exhibition when it is not in her family home, Althorp House, in Northampton.
