Jay Z and Beyonce Try a Gentle, Plant Based Diet Over the Holiday Season

It seems like there cannot be enough challenges to keep down Jay Z and Beyonce. The unofficially dubbed America's Royal Couple have decided to undertake a plant based experiment-begin a 22-day vegan diet that ends at Christmas day. The hip hop mogul disclosed his personal thoughts on the challenge in his Life + Times website.

"On December 3, one day before my 44th birthday, I will embark on a 22 Days challenge to go completely vegan, or as I prefer to call it, plant-based! This all began a few months back when a good friend and vegan challenged me to embrace a 'plant-based breakfast' every day. It was surprisingly easier on me than I thought, " the Magna Carta rapper explains.

Also on the blog post, he explains the wonderful numerical 'wordplay" of his food expedition, the idea of a habit forming in 21 days and revealed that his wife, Queen Bey herself, will join him in this undertaking. Jay Z also cited Marc Borges, the founder of the 22 Day Nutrition Program, as critical in the formation of the challenge itself.

According to People Magazine, the first day of the diet includes: a breakfast of vanilla chia pudding with fresh berries. Lunch is crunchy red cabbage and green apple sesame slaw with a cup of steamed, cubed sweet potato. Black bean and quinoa salad with cumin dressing is served for dinner with black chocolate for dessert. For snacks, the couple can have a quarter cup of hemp hummus with fresh vegetables. This certainly isn't your plain old vegetarian menu, that's for sure.

Hov ends on a pondering note and writes that he is not sure about what will happen after the vegetarian experiment ends: "I don't know what happens after Christmas. A semi-vegan, a full plant-based diet? Or just a spiritual and physical challenge? We'll see."
