Miley Cyrus Could Possibly be Time Magazine's 2013 Person of the Year [VIDEO]

Love her or hate her, there is no escaping Miley Cyrus. The tongue wagging, skin baring, twerking superstar has climbed on top of the media ladder and has dominated all news outlets with her peculiar antics this year. As what is being recognized as a last ditch prank, a couple of hackers have schemed to make the "Cannonball" singer Time magazine's Person of the Year but the joke's on them as Miley Cyrus is actually being considered as a finalist.

Before Thanksgiving, Miley Cyrus was leading the pack of nominees by 29 percent. Though ultimately she did not win, she did come up third. Billboard reports that the total vote was something like "279,300 votes, or 16.3 percent of the total."

However, that was only for the online poll, Time editors are considering Miley Cyrus as the magazine cover for their annual Person of the Year. Nancy Gibbs, Time managing editor, appeared on Today on Monday explained the decision to include the "We Won't Stop" singer: "Power is not just political. It can be cultural. It can be spiritual. She came in like a wrecking ball ... the most watched video of the year and at a time when we are living with an explosion of exhibitionism, since we all now carry cameras with us at all times, she is a symbol."

For better or worse, Miley Cyrus has affected the cultural conversation in a way that has truly gotten the world's attention which in itself is a real accomplishment. Through the way she has presented herself and the way she has chosen to control her image, the debate for a woman's place in the entertainment industry has never been more loud or clear.

Miley Cyrus' fans should cross their fingers as the Person of the Year will be revealed on Wednesday's Today show.
