Kohl's, Macy's & Other Stores to Stay Open for 100 Hours to Make Up for Loss

Kohl's, Macy's, Kmart & many other stores are to remain open for more than 100 hours this holiday season to cater to all of your shopping needs... or so you think.

According to USA Today, some stores are ending the holiday shopping season with a marathon of shopping hours.

Kohl's will be staying open for longer hours for the first time. The store will be open for five straight days, from 6 a.m. on Friday up to 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve.

Macy's will be opening for over 100 hours starting this Friday through Christmas Eve, and the same goes for Kmart.

Toys R Us will carry out their operations for nearly 87 straight hours starting this Saturday, famously known as the second biggest shopping day of the year.

Analysts believe that remaining open for expanded hours is a strategy of many stores to recoup lost sales ever since the Black Friday shopping craze began.

ShopperTrak reported that sales figures at U.S. stores somehow rose to 2% to $176.7 million from Nov. 1 through last Sunday.

Because of the rather slow pacing of holiday season sales, a noticeable pressure has put retailers to the edge of getting more people to shop in the final days before Christmas.

"It's make or break for the retailers," America's Research Group chairman C. Britt Beemer said. "They have to make up for lost ground."

As of late, stores that will remain open for extended hours this week can possibly make up to 40% of their revenue in November and December.

Macy's, one of the stores that is joining this revolution, recognizes the fact that a lot of people flock the stores to do some last-minute shopping days or hours before Christmas.

"Our customers love the option to shop late night, overnight and/or first thing in the morning," Macy's spokeswoman Elina Kazan.
