Woody Harrelson: "The Hunger Games" star Woody Harrelson saves the world two boxes of paper at a time

Woody Harrelson shows he's not only dedicated in producing fine movies, he's also invested in saving the environment.

Environmentalist Woody Harrelson co-founded Prairie Paper Ventures, a company focused on producing paper from crop waste instead of trees.

Along the beginning of the technological age, many people predicted that computers would decrease paper usage and bring about the advent of the "paperless office." The world has not been more wrong on this account as statistics show that computers have prompted higher paper production than ever.

Woody Harrelson founded his company with the goal of ensuring that the demand for more paper would not compromise the world's forests. The "Now You See Me" star said "Just know that two boxes of this paper saves one tree, so you can make a very real difference."

Woody Harrelson founded Prairie Paper Ventures in 1998 in Winnipeg. He and his team have taken until this year to develop and market a process to turn left over wheat straw into usable paper.

In the end, the years and all the effort paid off as Prairie Paper is now just as affordable and high-quality as paper produced through manufacturing wood.

Jeff Golfman, who is one of the founding chairmen of Prairie Paper Ventures along with Woody Harrelson and Clayton Manness, shared that  "we like to say the most remarkable thing about our paper is how unremarkable it actually is - Where our process is unique is in the formulas [and] recipes we're using."

Prarie Paper is currently being manufactured in two mills located in northern India. Though made from crop waste, their product could be used like regular paper and works in standard printers.

Staples currently have this product lining their shelves, both online and in their Canadian stores.

A Prairie Paper ream, which sells for US$8.50, is composed of 80 percent wheat straw and 20 percent wood fiber. Golfman shared that the business has gained government grants and equity valuing up to US$10 million.

Woody Harrelson and his co-founders are currently trying to sell equity stakes valuing around US$5 million in order to provide for the increasing demand of Prarie Paper. They also plan on launching a completely "tree-free" line of products next year.
