Shailene Woodley might be the leading lady of the upcoming, much-anticipated "The Fault In Our Stars" but that doesn't mean the 22-year-old shares the same opinion as book author John Green.
On Wednesday, fans of the bestselling author John Green received the first teaser for "The Fault In Our Stars" in the form a poster featuring main leads, Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort. The film has been highly aticipated by Green's fans all over the world ever since news of a film adaptation of the author's most popular book yet came out earlier this year.
The image displayed in the poster was said to be perfect for the tone of the film with the young cancer-stricken couple Augustus, played by Ansel Elgort, and Hazel, played by Woodley, lying peacefully on the grass and smiling blissfully. Hazel is even shown wearing her cannula, similar to her image on the cover of one version of the book.
The one-sentence tagline near the bottom of the beautiful poster however spaked controversy and threatened the tone set by the overall image. The film's tagline reads "One sick love story."
A few avid fans called the chosen tagline offensive and glib. Others loved it, saying the stark gallows humor of the line suits Green's story.
But TFIOS actress Shailene Woodley has her own opinion on the controversial one-liner and despite ultimately supporting the decision made by producers, the star also remarked that if she had the right to choose the tagline, this would not have been it.
"I had a really strong response to it," the actress shared to in an interview. "It's definitely - it's not a tagline that I probably would have chosen by any means."
Woodley also said that despite this, there are so many fans who are very passionate about "The Fault In Our Stars" that it is likely nothing will ever satisfy all the readers. Shailene Woodley added that ultimately, the final say on the matter ultimately came from the marketing mavens, though she still would not have chosen the tagline for herself.
Author John Green himself also shared an opinion on the tagline, saying, "I found [the tagline] dark and angry in the same way that Hazel is (at least at times) dark and angry in her humor." According to his Tumblr post on Wednesday, Green liked the chosen tag line because it literally says that even the sick can have their own love stories.
