A mother has been arrested for killing her own daughter and attempting to kill her three other kids and her ex-husband on Christmas Day, Police said Sunday.
According to a Yahoo! News report, 35-year-old Connie Villa attempted to slay all of her family comprising four children and her ex-husband on Dec. 25.
Casa Grande, Arizona Police Department said the mother has been charged with first-degree murder after killing one of her daughters, 13-year-old Aniarael Macias, who was found dead in their family apartment bathroom.
Additionally, after attempting to kill all of her kids, Villa allegedly called her ex-husband, Adam Villa, to pay them a visit on Christmas Day so she could kill him.
Police said Connie repeatedly stabbed her ex-husband in the torso, but Adam managed to escape and drove himself to the hospital. He also prompted the police about the incident.
Authorities said that when police arrived at the apartment, they had t forcibly open the door to get in. When they managed to break in, they found Connie holding a knife to her chest with allegedly self-inflicted stab wounds on her torso.
Casa Grande Police Department spokesman Thomas Anderson said authorities found the mother's three other kids, ages 3, 5, and 8, alive and free from stab wounds. Meanwhile, Aniarael Macias was found dead inside a bathroom with no visible injuries.
The three kids were taken to the hospital, and after subjecting to several tests, doctors found trace amounts of opiates in their system, which led police to claim that Connie also attempted to poison the little ones.
On the other hand, Aniarael's autopsy result was inconclusive. "We are anxiously awaiting the results of the toxicology report to determine that [cause of death]," Anderson said adding, "Evidence found on scene and interviews of the children give us cause to believe Aniarael was also given some type of prescription narcotic drug."
Both Connie and Adam were treated for their wounds in two different health facilities. Adam is still hospitalized but he is already in stable condition, according to Yahoo! News.
Adam is the father of the three younger kids while Aniarael Macias' biological father remains unidentified but is reportedly working with the investigators of the case.
Connie Villa was arrested today and was charged with first degree murder and an additional four charges of attempted murder.
The three kids are currently staying with Adam Villa's family, while he is still recovering at the hospital.
Investigation is still on-going, police said.
