'The Voice' may have concluded smoothly and without much ado just this December 2013 but the same couldn't be said for the singing competition's Tournament of Roses Parade float.
It seemed as though most of NBC's broadcast of this year's Tournament of Roses Parade was focused on "The Voice's" float, which was ridden by Season 5 champ Tessanne Chin and contenders Will Champlin and Jacquie Lee. The ride started out uneventful until the elaborate float finally made its way through the packed streets of Pasadena where it all started going downhill for the three singers.
It seemed like nothing came up roses for the "Voice" winner and her fellow finalists when the float came to Pasadena.
One of the most noteable mishaps stemmed from NBC presenters Al Roker and Hoda Kotb who appeared to have little to absolutely no idea who Will Champlin and Jacquie Lee were. At some point, the announcers mistook finalist Champlin for "Voice" panelist and mentor, Adam Levine.
To add salt on the wound, the NBC announcers jokingly called Champlin an "Adam wannabe" as they narrated the events of the parade.
Al and Hoda were later on made aware of the identities of the two other people on the "Voice" float beside Chin, that they were in fact, also "Voice" contestants. However, the two announcers still did not mention the two finalists by their names until much later.
Following the mishap with the finalists' identities, a technical glitch in the sound system forced the NBC announcers to cover up the dead air with spontaneous babbling for more than five awkward minutes. During the glitch, Tessanne Chin, Will Champlin and Jacquie Lee were unable to do much else except stand on the float and wave awkwardly to the expectant crowd while waiting for authorized staff members to finish fixing the glitch.
During the awkward pause caused by the glitch, it seemed like Chin would not be able to perform even one song for the event, to which announcer Al had remarked with incredulousness, "She's not singing?"
After the error was finally fixed, Chin was given a chance to sing a mere 47 seconds of her new winner's single, "Tumbling Down."
