The Doctor Who fandom gets a teaser of the much-anticipated season eight after the first official picture of the latest Doctor, Peter Capaldi, surfaced on the internet.

The image was leaked into the web around the same time the filming of the crossover series' season eight began.

The picture shows Capaldi as the Doctor pointing while sharing a conversation with his companion Clara, played by Jenna Coleman. According to the show's officials, the clothes sported by Capaldi in the image will not be his official Doctor Who costume.

Peter Capaldi debuted as the Doctor in "The Day of the Doctor, the hit TV series' 50th anniversary special, before officially taking the reigns from eleventh Doctor Matt Smith in the 2013 Christmas special. Peter Capaldi previously appeared on the show as a guest star playing a completely different role.

"New job, first day, slightly nervous. Just like the Doctor, I'm emerging from the TARDIS into a whole other world," the actor shared in a statement.

The first episode featuring Capaldi as the new Doctor was penned by Steven Moffat. Phil Ford wrote the second. Doctor Who will be filming in Cardiff for the next several months until August 2014.

"First the eyebrows! Then, at Christmas, the face! Coming soon, the whole Doctor. In the Cardiff studios, the Capaldi era begins," writer Steven Moffat stated.

Capaldi replaces eleventh Doctor Matt Smith as the lead of the science fiction television series. Smith assumed the role of Doctor for the last time in the 2013 Christmas special. Peter Capaldi's casting first broke out in August of 2013.

"Being asked to play the Doctor is an amazing privilege," the actor shared after the announcement of his new role. "Like the Doctor himself I find myself in a state of utter terror and delight. It's so wonderful not to keep this secret any longer, but it's been so fantastic."

"I just want to wish my successor all the best and say good luck and good on you for getting it," Capaldi's predecessor Smith told the actor through a recorded message at the time. "I know he's a huge fan of the show and a really nice guy. The casting of it made me really excited it. I think it's a really canny choice. Good luck, man. It's going to be a thrill."
