Unemployment Benefits Pass Senate, Now Onto House

The United States senate moved one step closer on Tuesday to helping people who have lost their unemployment benefits after the current benefits expired on December 28th 2013 and the congress went on their holiday break without coming to an agreement on an extension on a new benefits plan for millions of people who rely upon them who are currently out of work.

Democrats, who hold the majority within the United States senate were able to get 6 republicans to join them in order to get a key passage of the bill to move it onto the United States house of representatives where the passage of the bill holds a more uncertain future as the House of Representatives is controlled by the Republicans whom a majority of are opposed to passing the bill without any pre-conditions or attachments to it.

The speaker went onto say "One month ago, I personally told the White house that another extension of temporary emergency unemployment benefits should not only be paid for but include something to help put people back to work... To date, the president has offered no such plan. If he does I'll be happy to discuss it."

The six republicans who joined democrats in helping move the bill forward were, 1) Dean Heller (R-NV), 2), Daniel Costs (R- IN), 3) Susan Collins (R-ME), 4) Kelly Ayotte (R-NH), 5) Lisa Murkowski (R- AK), and 6) Rob Portman (R-OH). All democrats in the senate voted to move the bill forward.

In response to the passage of the bill, Senate majority leader Reid went onto say, "I don't predict anything in the house" and in which he also referred the house to being a "black hole of legislation."

The bill now moves to the House of Representatives where if the tone of the speaker's remarks is the same as the attitude of the republicans of the House of Representatives' there may be little chance for the passage of the bill which would help get assistance to millions of people who are currently out of work.
