Chris Christie's Woes Worsen in Traffic Scandal: Big Fat Problem For Chris Christie Gets Fatter

Poor Chris Christie. All he wants to do is govern New Jersey and yet he is burdened time and again by pesky little things like getting caught using his powers as a state official to close down lanes of traffic in order to get revenge on a Mayor who didn't support him during the last election. Which I know sounds like the plot of a Chris Farley movie from the 1990's but I swear is actually true.

That's right, apparently Deputy Chief of Staff for Christie Bridget Anne Kelly sent an email to David Wildstein at the Port Authority (a Christie appointee in fact) that read, "Time for some traffic problems in Fort Lee." to which Wildstein replied "Got it." Then three weeks later lanes leading out of Fort Lee to the George Washington Bridge were mysteriously closed, causing a major traffic headache for all involved.

And if that doens't sound bad enough, if that seems like it may be too much of a coincidence for you then wait until you get a load of some text messages shared between Kelly and Wildstein during said traffic jam.

- Is it wrong that I'm smiling?

- I feel badly about the kids.

- I guess

- They are the children of Buono voters

Yeah. It's pretty bad. But don't worry. Chris Christie has taken action by firing Kelly. He's even, you may want to sit down for this one folks, apologized. I know. First an African Amercian man gets elected as the President of the United States and now a blowhard, loud mouth New Jersey politician admits fault after allowing immoral wrong doings to take place within his administration. What's next? Legalization of Marijuana in the state of Colorado? Pardon me? Is that so? One second...

Now that I'm back from booking tickets to Denver let's finish this Chris Christie discussion shall we?  To make matters worse for Christie, who recently joked about the scandal in front of cameras saying that he himself was out in the street placing orange cones to divert traffic, the U.S. District Attorney has opened a preliminary inquiry into the scandal. For those wondering what that means exactly may I point you to the second season of Boardwalk Empire.

Okay, even I admit that's going a little too far. I'm not saying that there's actual corruption going on betwen the Feds and Christie, but the harsh reality of the situation is this; where's the criminal intent in closing down a couple lanes of traffic? It's not like Christie or anyone under Christie (ooh, that's a rough image) benifited financially from the lane closures. It's not like the intent of closing the lanes was to hault 4 emergency responses, which actually happened by the way. No, at best what will most likely come from this is what has already come from it. We'll have proff that people in power chose to wield that power in an irresponsible way. In short, a slap on the wrist.

Unless of course the Democrats in New Jersey see fit to call for impeachment in which case they'll lose. Because as bad as this looks for Christie one things remains true. The State of New Jersey loves their big fat Governor.
