Sometimes life does not always imitate art. That is the case with Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder. The couple picked up the "Best Chemistry" prize at the People's Choice awards even though the two have broken up as a couple in real life. Dobrev and Somerhalder beat out four other onscreen couples to win the award which was presented on Wednesday, Jan. 8.
While on stage they joked about the nature of their relationship and shared a kiss on the cheek.
Dobrev and Somerhalder star in "The Vampire Diaries," where they play a couple. The couple said they started dating on the show, then they started dating in real life. Their real life relationship fizzled, but their onscreen romance continues.
However, Dobrev and Somerhalder seem to have been mature about their breakup and remain friends. Dobrev later helped Somerhalder's dog deliver puppies. Dobrev also celebrated her birthday on Thursday, turning 25. Hollywood Life also reported that Dobrev landed on the cover of Cosmopolitan in September. Somerhalder described Dobrev's magazine cover as "stunning."
However the New York Daily News, reports that the couple have secretly rekindled their relationship. Dobrev briefly dated "Dancing WIth the Stars" Derek Hough, the brother of Julianne Hough. According to US Weekly, the relationship failed because of the distance.
Born in Sofia, Bulgaria, Dobrev moved to Canada when she was a child. She became famous for playing a single mother on "Degrassi; The Next Generation." She currently stars on "The Vampire Diaries," where she plays three characters, Elena Gilbert, Katherine Pierce and Amara.
She has also been in several movies such as "Fugitive Pieces," "The American Mall," "Away from Her," "Never Cry Werewolf," "Chloe" and "The Perks of Being a Wallflower," where she starred alongiside Paul Rudd and Emma Watson.
